I feel we need to also notice that the reduction of population/yield due to ammonia formation with the DAP occurred only when banded in close proximity to the seed
For no-till broadcast or for broadcast with incorporation no reductions are found
And the test was only with small grains. Corn and soys were not tested in that paper (though we might expect roughly the same results)
I think we can extrapolate that deep banding of either product will not reduce germination or yield
The Hefty brothers are proponents of deep banding of fertility
I was considering trying DAP in a side by side next season, but the coop has to bring it in special and I am less enthusiastic than I was a couple of months ago, after further reading.
