Subject: Chicken litter

NC Iowa
I am applying chicken litter to 2 fields this fall and following with a disk ripper. One is corn on corn and the other is 1st year corn. We have heavy black soil types in NC Iowa. Both fields are half low PH(5.7-6.3) and a big chunk is higher Ph over 7.5-8. Wondering if the litter helps the low ph. Also is there any negative affects from applying litter to this type of soil. We are doing it mainly to raise the phosphorus and micronutrient levels. We are counting on 60% of the N available 1st year and 80% of the p and k. Does this sound reasonable?

Also the 1st year corn field will be conventional corn next year. Do you think there is any increased potential for weed growth when applying chicken litter?
