I have found that running 30" rows at a shallow angle helps feed them into the auger smoother. Even a 2 or 3 degree angle makes them work better. They don't build up on the cutterbar right at each row because the cut point changes constantly. That said, in smaller fields or odd shaped fields, I sometimes run with the row if they are feeding well. It does make it a little harder to drive the cart. One of our cart tractors has autosteer, makes it a lot easier.
