Read the laws for yourself! I have recently found that here in IN there is no building department that has any power over someone building anything as long as it is for their own use. If going to build then resell then they have power. Only thing they do have control over is the septic field, not even the tank, just the field as it is governed by the health department not building department. The building department cant even levy fee's or fines. No required inspections, nothing. All written in the state law. So, I'd look up your laws and see for yourself. Ours are obtainable online so yours may be too. Or if you really want to rattle cages tell them you demand to see the law that states you must follow such and such rule. If like my building department they get really mad when you prove them wrong, and the police show up when you get vocal.
