Subject: Evading permit for Shop Floor Drain

Chaffee, Western New York
Getting closer to a new shop. Started knocking on doors and looking/ asking questions. Everyone has had a run in with the DEC "floor drain Nazi".
I called the DEC to find some official line. $300 or $600 annual permit depending on how you get classified(that determines what other treatment equipment goes with the permit) They claim bribery is not a solution (not what some guys claimed). Storage area is exempt, so "loophole" is to lie and claim to never wash or do "maintance" in the "storage area". (If you hide the hot water pressure washer and kiss butt this may pass on a good day.) Shaping the floor so no water can go to the drain via gravity will get you by. Yes they can make you remove the drain, floor or both, with heavy fines.

What do you do or is this just a New York thing?

Anything outside is Ok. But I really don't want to wash a combine outside in the winter because that is what I'm doing now.
