Subject: RE: Building Organic Matter in Sandy Southern Soils

South Dakota
Like you, I'm here to learn. We farm in the north, with a More favorable climate for building organic matter, So take this with a grain of salt:

1. Grow hi residue crops, ESP. Corn. In addition to the overall Residue tonnage Corn also takes a long time to break down Because of the carbon ratios

2.manure. And then some more manure. After 10+ years of Manure history We have noticed Fields They get manure on a regular basis Easily have two points or more Of organic matter. We know those consistently Based on various grid samples.

3. Reduced tillage. This is pretty obvious. Exceptions are Continuous corn manure and green cover cropping.

Good luck
