north-central Indiana west of Fulton | As I said earlier, was surprised that as many of the IH then CaseIH choppers (830/881 and 720/781) are still being being used by fellows on here (Runningihred, Yongfarmer89. and cjd12000) . Did a little research on them from old buyers guides and think I narrowed the years they made them from when they came out in 1977 as the 720 and 830, to when they ended in I think 1993 as the 7 and 881. The last 2 years it looked like just the 881 was made but they also had one made by Hesston. Then a couple Hesston made #s were sold until the NH was put in the line.
We have not had a serious problem with parts but that will only get worse and some parts are not available. Always keep a gathering belt and drive sprocket for the belt on hand since I wonder if I'll be able to get the next one ! The corn head on our 881 is the head that came on the 720 we bought new in 1978 because when we traded, it had only a hay head. Have a picture of the 720 when we first went to the field with it on a Case 2470 then a couple other tractors we pulled it with.
Would like a current model NH chopper for better parts availability and drive simplicity but we keep the CaseIH going instead !
