There are scrapers on the newer balers to help keep the plunger rails clean when operating in high moisture... requires a new stake/shaft, however, and requires that the rear end of the rails kept clean to keep the scrapers from getting beaten to death.

Silage is generally harder on the stuffer than anything else, it takes a lot of load to drag the wet flakes up into the chamber. I've seen a number of guys choke down the chute about as small as it'll go to reduce the stuffer loads (need to keep the top about 1-2" larger than the bottom to keep it from plugging). Generally they couldn't keep the stuffer filled to begin with so reducing the size didn't hurt capacity much at all. Silage seems to feed into the narrower chute better and doesn't take as much torque to sling it into the chamber.

That said, the bale corners look pretty damn good so either you've already made the adjustments or it's not really a problem. :)
