Subject: Repairing threads on a bolt/shaft

I have an old plow that uses a crank to adjust the pitch. It looks like it was cast or forged, roughly 1/2" bolt size or so. The threads are stripped out/worn/rusted off the middle of the threaded part. Is there anything like a helicoil for threads on a bolt or shaft? Or what is a good way to fix it. I am betting a machine shop could do it but I am afraid to find out how much they would want to do it. I am tempted to put a nut above and below the trunnion(?) And tack weld them on but i would rather keep it original looking.

I thought about trying to cut it off and weld a bolt or all thread on there but it holds the whole weight of the plow so i am not sure how.well that would hold up.
