On the synchro 4020, the switch is on the right side of the transmission. Follow the wiring to it.
Might need to clean the terminals or adjust the depth it screws into the transmission, or maybe check the range detent that is nearby there on the side of the transmission. Last one I worked on, a 5/16 nut on top of the spring under the cap, really helped make it stay put in each range position.
