Carefully examine the bulb and note the differing distances from the hot end that the 'pins' that hold it in the socket are. Then examine the receptacle.

Short answer, give it a half turn and try again.

Di-electric grease essential, and put a screw driver or something into receptacle and push to make sure the contacts will engage the bulb.
