We have an old "cave" (fruit cellar) that we use to keep potatoes & canned vegetables in. Never freezes in the winter, usually around 40 deg. Taters would keep till late spring. Onions we always pulled & tied in bunches by their tops & hung to dry from the rafters of a concrete block garage. Would leave them hang till it started to freeze them moved them to the heated back porch for the winter
