SE ND
We hade some frost on the grass next.to the tree rows this morning. I thought we came out untouched by frost from last week but I was wrong. A couple of my bean fields are drooping at the top of the plants. I'm surprised especially since we didn't get near as cold as they were forcasting. AccuWeather has lows of 28-29 degrees for the 26th-30th. That's a ways out but it looks similar to this last front that came through. The only difference would be if we don't have the cloud cover to go with it. We lost a ton of ground on gdu's the past two weeks. Hopefully we can at least maintain the spread with the next 10 days near normal Temps. 2009 could actually have more gdd'a than this year if we don't get a major hear wave in October.

Attached are two gdu maps showing exactly what I'm talking about. Right now near Jamestown we have roughly 1900 gdd's. 88 day corn requires 2200 for black layer. If we average 65/50 till maturity that will take 40 freeze free days to reach maturity. Then comes drying. And most of the corn in my area is 88-93 day.
