I think that your approach using the selection boxes and the SUMIF(S) formula will work better than my approach. I had my data table set up like yours pictured with autofilters and made a summary section at the top of the worksheet using SUBTOTAL based formulas. This worked fine, but because it relied on filtering the data to get results, I could not figure out how to get it to automatically relate to a single value like "acres" based on filter selections. I don't know if this makes sense, but regardless, I like how your method works!
Contextures has some neat tutorials on using data validation to create drop down selection lists (like in your yellow highlighted area) that will be very useful in situations like this. | |
