We built new a few years ago and it took me all winter to get used to how geo-thermal heat worked and how it seemed to be on more than off. The installer said that's how they are designed to work, and it is something we got used to. I would say if it's maintaining your temp, it is designed and installed correctly. If it won't maintain the temp, then you probably need something supplemental. I like burning wood - but we are overrun with trees here, not sure if you would be in N. Dakota. Was also told that it was important to leave the thermostat on a constant setting, not turning it down at night, when you are gone, etc like many are accustomed to.
