Sandy Hook, MB | JohnW - 9/9/2014 02:00 I don't know where you live, but in a lot of places you can just mulch them with straw or something similar very well to prevent them from freezing and leave them in the ground and dig them as you need them. A carrot is a biannual plant that does not go to seed until the second year, so the carrot is made to survive in the ground, but if it does freeze it will turn to mush when it thaws out.

I tried that 1 year, it didn't go over too good. As you say, they all froze & turned to mush in the spring. I'll stick with putting them in pails of sand & storing them in my shop (a constant 10° C).
