Hello NE Ridger,

I am curious... how is that you decided to plant some plots of OP corn this year?

This season (for the first time), we planted 3 lines (2 hybrids and 1 OP) of high beta-carotene corn developed by Dr. Walter Goldstein.

The OP corn is clearly more variable in tassel height (and various other characteristics) but I have not looked at it carefully for a number of weeks so I should take a closer look when I am at the research farm tomorrow.

Walter is also working on other nutritional quality trait as well as improved hosting of N-fixing endophytes.

here is a link to some info about his institute: http://www.mandaamin.org/who-are-we

and here is a link to a video of a presentation on breeding corn for positive soil microbial interactions: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z8-jlGIe8ig&feature=youtu.be

you might want to contact Walter and offer to evaluate some of his lines.
