Nebraska aka the boondocks | I would add another point here, and that is "consistency." If you do pretty much the same patterns every year than you will partake in some of or a lot of the gravy. Forward selling for 13 in aug of 12 turned out to be chaching. If however, every year you totally do something different than you run the risk of "whiffing" many times in a row. Obviously forward selling in the last five years, those sales a lot of the time were just "good" sales and not great. The great was the last 30-40%. And finally I think us Nebraska irrigated farmers behave a little different view point, given the fact we really don't think about drought when we forward sell, just hail, hail and more hail.... lol... which is why a production hail policy in this state is a must. |
