Hmmm....I was just watching videos on Youtube of everyone swathing it first then came back and saw your reply. Last year I tried regular forage sorghum and direct cut it in the soft dough stage and it ensiled just fine. I guess that far in maturity the stalks had dried somewhat? I've got 4.5 acres and am looking at 40 cows with calves almost on full feed plus this springs calves coming in the feed lot. Not looking at a whole lot here. Baling is an option but I'm hesitant to just drop a 4x5 bale out for 40 cows to eat free choice....or the feeders to have free choice to go along with their grain. Would there be any danger of either foundering? They're all well fed and in good condition.
