| A couple of us in our area are experiencing the same sort of problem with our orchardgrass. We've all done soil sampling and one of us has done a tissue test, which showed a lack of sulfur and I believe manganese. I think it's a rust problem. The tips of the leaves soon after first cutting turn brown, within the first 3 weeks. Once 1-2" of the tip is brown, the plant is shut down and there becomes no more growth.
So, we all tried a series of fungicides. Tried Bravo. Tried Bravo/tilt combination. Tried Quadris. The tilt seems to be the one that worked best. When the timing was just right, the best results were about 85% of the plants kept healthy by the use of the tilt.
Now, the label doesn't state any such use of these products for forage. But, if you read under the "seed production" part of the label, the way I understand it, after the plant is harvested for seed, you have to wait at least 35 days to use the plant for forage use. Or am I looking at this all wrong? | |
