Harvest it as early as you can as well. If the stalk quality deteriorates enough the extra stress on the stalks being straightened back upright will make it exponentially more difficult if some of the stalks start pulling out of the ground or breaking off.

I have had fantastic luck with my Headsight height control and Truesight row feelers. So that I could not row from the combine seat and I didn't even have to slow down.

I run a Drago cornhead and the aggressiveness of the gathering chains definitely helps grab and pull this type of corn into the head.
