SW Iowa
I think the exhibitors are fat with cash from the past good times. The sales forces are flush with cash. Show organizers are flush with cash. They have all forgotten who these shows are really for, and why their companies spent the dough to display there. There should not be any question of being there an extra day to make up for a rain out day. Those salesmen are supposed to be pressing the flesh, trying to fill their prospect books with good names, not worried about tear down and the next show 3 weeks later, and getting home in time for Labor day. If they don't make new sales, they will have no home to back to. But, I am thinking of the old school salesmen who used to work the shows and were always scratching for a good prospect for their products back when there was no such thing as mud discounts. They were paid commission on sales, with a small stipend for daily expenses. Apparently now, they have fat salaries with very small commissions if any, and selling new isn't such a big deal.
I believe the worm is turning, and these shows will stay open night and day trying to attract what few new iron buyers are out there. And, if that means a day or two stay over due to weather shutdowns, there will be no question but to do it. But by then, the real savy buyers will be internet shopping, and staying away from all the bother and waste of time at a big show which may be cancelled at any time. Once the mfg;s get tired of fronting a vacation for their 'hard' working salesmen, and lay em off instead, the shows will die off. Then we will be back to the county fairs and the dealers themselves putting of the dog and pony shows. Which is probably the way it should be. Dealers also can organize field demo days. Do not need to have mega events life FPS, that cancels 1/3 of it's show and says no ton rain day extensions..
