I'd argue the more you rent the more you need it for a competitive advantage. The guy owning all his land has most likely more profit margin than a renter. If I'm competing against another farmer with no dryer and I have 1, who is in position to bid higher?


Agree, a huge competitive advantage. Only drawback is that it's a very large investment and its not very liquid once it's built. Spend 500k on a few large bins, a dryer and a transfer system......2 years later you lose 60% of your land base.....try selling 2 year old bins that have to be tore down and moved....a used dryer and a transfer system that more than likely wont work for anyone else's set up but yours.......your gonna get 30 % of your investment back if your lucky. Your gonna need some land security to take the plunge.
