Nebraska aka the boondocks | I don't think anybody is suggesting you don't pick as early as you can, or that going to the bins as fast as you can is not a good idea. I would totally agree that field losses pick up greatly as the corn dries. Certainly a great advantage for anyone that has facilities. We pick beans as soon as the combine will process them, or the elevator tells us not to come back, lol... In 2012 a lot of guys got hit here with their pants down. we had a two days of 60 mph winds and the ears blew back and forth, and well day three the ears started to hit the ground, every day more ears fell. Some guys had 120 bta laying on the ground. In comes rakes and edible bean heads as guys tried to windrow and then pick up their corn.
In reference to the "shrink post," I personally always find it interesting that we can get so many different answers, when in reality there should only be one.
