Death comes to us all. Life's but a walking shadow | It was my understanding that 2009 was just such a crop year and therefore the effect you postulate should apply to both years. What isn't clear from the chart is the relationship between the number of farms in each category and the size of the farms. If the larger farms also have better soils then the indicated percentages won't accurately reflect the total production. If we wanted to, we could test that right from the data given in the chart simply by multiplying the indicated yield by the percentage at that yield and calculating an average. This calculated average should be very close to the 2009 state ave. of 175 bushel per acre.
I didn't notice it until just now but there is data point up at 320 bushel per acre. The rest of you Ill. farmers need to find out who that is and learn how to grow corn.
