Subject: Early Kansas yields again

Anderson County Kansas
We have picked 600 acres in east central Kansas. Our average so far is 190, our 10 year aph is 125, the best average we ever had was 184 in 2004. This corn was variable rate planted with an average of around 24k. I am posting this to show how big the kernels can be with cool temps. We were wet in June, but only had 2.5 inches on most farms in July. My guess is big kernels will be the trend all over with the cool July. We do have the dreaded DOUBLES on about 10 percent of the stalks. Many of these will have 150 to 200 per ear so that adds some to the yield. If I had used the standard 90k kernels per bushel for yield checks, I would have been way low. The ears average 36 long by 16 around. On another not, our beans really need a rain, but I surely don't want a wind storm with it.
