My thoughts on debt are that I hate it..........but I'm in debt at this time. I've never been able to get enough ahead to buy all my inputs for the next year. Even with the prices we've had lately, everything else went up too. I'm a small farmer(275 ac.), and I've had some good years and some very bad one's. Hard to dig out of a hole on no more acres than I farm. If I didn't have my town job I would have starved to death 15 yrs. ago. When I started farming in the mid 90's on my own, I had to buy practically everything cause my dad had sold all of our row crop equip. in the 80's when he quit. Not everyone is handed a great setup to get started. It's been a struggle a lot of the time here with my soil's to get a consistent good crop. Maybe one day I won't have to go to the banker, that's my hope and my dream, but I may run out of years before that happens.
