| Here's another term heard around here..
"A day on the Front is worth a WEEK on the end.."
Meaning that a DAY LOST on the FRONT end.. where GDU's are 101- ?? whatever it is 55 ?? = 46 gdu's.. Growing Degree Units..Actually only 30 as you cap it at 85'ish degree's.. depending upon the crop.. = 30 gdu's
So the stuff planted the NEXT day has to mature with the 30 gdu's.. that must be MADE UP on the BACK end.. when it may only be 60.. or 5 GDU's per day.. so that stuff matures a WEEK'ish.. later...
Get it?
We're cutting it THAT close..
The guys that turned the double crop beanies around with the Air Seeders.. They didn't run out of ground.. they ran out of BEARINGS.. and energy.. to fix their seeders. They could have ordered another semi load of seed.. (And while your at it.. send a semi load of bearings..) at..?? $40,000 per pop.. and seeded another 1,000 acres... but after about $150,000 worth...
"that's enough."
They still had a couple thousand acres of ground that they COULD have seeded...
These decisions are an HOUR by HOUR call on the day of...
"looks like rain."
"okay THAT's it then.."
With me.. it's a couple hundred acres.. with them it's a couple thousand acres.. add us all up and your talking a couple myn acres...
How do YOU guys do it?
