Why wouldn't I plant less corn and beans if other crops or pasture make more net revenue or at least less of a loss? We already started growing more alfalfa and retaining more heifers this year.

As has been pointed out, it's not only acres that will be down. Farmers will cheapen up on the inputs. We are not going to spend extra money to get that last 5 or 10 bushels. ROI at 6 to 7 $ corn justified a lot of extras being thrown at the crop. 3$ or less not so much.
