Strathcona, mn
I don't put tons of faith in lower day maturities not having the yield potential as longer day maturities. No doubt there is some reasoning to that, but I have personally seen 79 day corn go over 210bpa. The spread of yield potential and maturities is a lot smaller than a person thinks. I used to live in an area of 95 to 110 day corn and presently live in an area of 74-80 day corn. There isn't as much difference as a person thinks. The weather conditions have as much or more to do with it. I wouldn't be afraid to plant a much shorter day variety if it would allow the soils to produce a crop, max yield potential may be cut by 10% but at least it would have a chance of making a crop 8 out of 10 years as compared to 4 out of 10 if it burns up every year. Same thought as winter bars. Spring wheat but you have 74-120 day corn to use.
