lots of good advice, I can't add any better advice, just a story I found funny.
We had two dogs at the same time, a St Bernard and a German Shepard. The Shepard was meek but friendly, the St Bernard was a good guy, but extremely greedy, he would share nothing with any other dog or cat.
I once saw him walk around for several days carrying a half full 5 qt ice cream bucket of dog food by the rim,so the other dog and cats would not get any of it. He couldnt eat any more, but they sure were not getting any if he could help it.
It came time to give him worm pills, I rolled them each up in a ball of hamburger and offered them to him. He was real suspicious of what I was up to, as he was nearly as suspicious / stubborn as he was greedy. I tried for 10 minutes to get him to eat the hamburger balls with worm pills inside, no luck. In a blast of inspiration, I called the other dog into the shed and offered her the meat balls. The St Bernard's greed kicked in and the meatballs were gone up inside him in an instant. For years after that, the same trick worked every time ;-)
