...I usually save lettuce seed. You buy one of those "Mesclun mix" packages..and there will be about 5-6 different lettuces in it. So you usually don't harvest every head..and they bolt and go to seed. You cut the seed heads off, dry them in your basement...shake them out in a plastic bag (sometimes rolling the seed heads between your fingers) and you'll have all kinds of seed for the next year. The problem is...justifying the time to do it, when a packet of seed only costs $2.00.................
