| Something you may want to try first is throw sprocket 700146099 on the top auger (you'll also need to add some links to the chain). This is an 18 tooth sprocket (yours should be a 12) which will slow the auger down and keep it from beating against the crop flow as much; this seems to reduce the tendency to wrap. It really shouldn't hurt capacity at all.
Otherwise, like Balefire said, there's no reason you shouldn't be able to do it. I don't think balance will be a big problem as the auger doesn't spin terribly fast. I'd just be slow and cautious with the welding to keep from warping/bending the auger.
