downside, dot officer pulls you over and you haven't had a inspection, you will more than likely be subject to on the spot inspection.  loss of time and possible out of service alongside the road somewhere during the busy season, is incentive enough for me to keep our inspections.



I understand in MN, they can only pull you over for inspection if they have Probable Cause. Meaning if you are stopped for speeding or any other traffic violation and when the officer walks up, if he sees a cracked frame, bald tire, etc, they can inspect and put you out of service if the inspection determines it should happen. They cannot just stop you for a spot inspection like they can for a commercial vehicle.

Not sure on this one, but of you were involved in a traffic accident, I would think an inspection post crash would happen as well.
