Windows 7 is fine. IF you do goto Windows *.1 (also fine and has some new and better features) I would definitely get the start is back for the start button and start in desktop mode.
I dont use antivirus - the new bowsers help a lot - just windows defender (the old secuity essentials plus a few extras)
