MN | Looking at remodeling our former farrowing barn into a calf barn for bottle calves and thinking ahead to winter (and propane usage). What temp would be good for bottle calves throughout the winter? We are going to use our existing ventilation system from the farrowing barn (unless we figure out that doesn't work). We have a 10 head farrowing crate room and a 14 head farrowing room (sow counts). Thinking we can put 28 head in the 10 head farrowing room in crates and not sure on the 14 crate. Any idea on what temp to keep bottle calves at during the winter? or even spring/fall switch over times. Any ventilation suggestions or ideas? We've raised calves in various places from open front sheds to hoop barns (during worst ice storm ever) and in hutches, but want to make use of the farrowing barns (and nursery if the farrowing side works out). We're thinking of building crates about 20-21 inches wide, 4+ feet long - any dimension suggestions? | |
