Subject: 8xxxrt 18 in. tracks cut down to 14 in.?

Looking at a JD 8310rt l. Looks good but it has 18 in belts and I need 14 in. belts to side dress 20 inch corn.

There's a tire and track company near me who said they can cut the 18 inch belts down to 14 inches.

Anyone done anything like this?

Besides potentially ruining a good set of belts what could go wrong?
