Marion, Ohio | I was on here asking about 15" row corn back in march and theres 2 answers that were the most common, standability and equipment cost. I bought 11 corn meters for the pusher units on my kinze 3600 and planted corn at 35,000, 38,000 and 42,000. Weve always been on 30's and plant 34000-36000. I had the same questions as you about 15's. The 15's looked incredible until about 5' tall. I was out in the corn a couple days ago (pollinating now) and my first thoughts were "if we get a bad storm im screwed!" The standability is definitely a big issue. Kernel counts look to be promising but that don't mean squat if you cant get it in the picker. Im not givin up on it yet. If you have a 30" corn head you can squeeze the 15's in with a little patience. I would only do a little bit and see what you come up with on your farm. | |
