East central Iowa
I use opendns and it will also tell you if a site is a problem.
Go into your router and change the static DNS.  If you don't know how to access this in your router go to Google and search for "change dns your router".
an example on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GmSYaGKhLKM  explains a lot.

Another couple of thoughts.  Have you checked your Host file?
Note if there is any entry without a # in front of it other than what I'm showing it will return a 404.
It should look like this:
 # Copyright (c) 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
#      102.54.94.97     rhino.acme.com          # source server
#       38.25.63.10     x.acme.com              # x client host
127.0.0.1       localhost

Lastly check to see if somebody has you using a proxy.  Go to control panel, Network and Internet, Internet Options, click on the connections tab, click on lan settings and see if anything has a check mark and if the proxy server has a check with some address in the box below, remove the check.
