Only thing I will add is that seed costs are significantly higher ,as are harvest/marketing costs (very labour intensive , even if you have a picker), partially offset by not having the drying costs associated with grain corn. Here processors sprays with coregan at tassel for bugs. I truck thousands of tons a year , and will say that it's rare to see any bugs. Bird damage and smut can be major issues with sweet corn though, so much so that in a bad year you could easily lose 50 % of what would be considered a marketable ear at the road side stand. Beyond that we treat our sweet corn the same as conventional commercial corn, same fertility and herbicide program etc. |
