Masonville, Iowa
Jeff,

I am not a vet, but I would tend to think the PEDv was your problem. Implementation of the embryos begins about 14 days post breeding so sickness and fevers would cause some embyos not to attach. When i do whole herd vaccinations of PRRS and flu, I will see my total born dip the most in the sows from just bred up to 3 weeks bred. Nutrition just prior to breeding also has a huge effect on the number of eggs released from the ovaries, so if they had diarreha for a while, they were probably not getting any good from the feed. If the sows got weaned early because of the PED(which sounds like the most widely accepted protocol), the sows uterus may not have had time to fully involute (heal) and didn't help your situation either. Pour the feed to the sows during lactation and keep em on full feed right up to they cycle again and they will respond.
