I would sell the disc mower and rake. Pencil it out and you will always be able to buy your hay cheaper than making it your self.


Works out on paper when hay is cheap...... I am not trying to start a fight but I go back and forth about this all the time and agree with you when hay is under $40/ton it is cheaper to buy it. What do you do when it is at $100/ton? Of course I am talking about pasture hay. If its alfalfa I say there is no way you can buy it cheaper than to grow and bale your own.

As to OP I am in a similar situation on my farm except I own my baler and also raise grain. You may try to feed out the calves but with your small numbers It may not be a profitable adventure.
