Hickory NC
I just helped a farmer in Ks with a cover crop mix. I think there are a few things farmers dont really pay attention to

Think about when you plant a wheat crop and it snows and it provides a "Thermal Blanket" for the wheat. So the Ambient Air doesn't hurt the wheat as bad when it really drops. Ok no think about planting say a "Millet, Soybean, type of mix after wheat harvest. When you plant the cover and Drill into it standing there is some cover crop that remains upright and make a Micro Climate below the standing cover giving the your wheat a Thermal Barrier.

Covers do use moisture but they also Conserve it. Imagine the soil and soil Biology and Cash crop plant roots remaining 10 to 20 degrees cooler during those summer dry months and how much moisture is then retained.

Would love to help anyone with covers.

Keeps our beans clean all summer long
