WildBuckwheat - 5/30/2014 21:17 The rockshaft which pivots to put the row units up/down should be level in good conditions. You can tilt it back another 5 degrees or so in tough conditions but no more than that. More than 5 degrees and you start wearing the rear of the seed boot and you change the angle between the ground and gauge/opener which actually makes it plant shallower. If you need to tilt it more than 5 degrees you need more weight! Sand bags on the platform where you stand to fill are better than nothing. Keeping the seed box full helps. The weight bracket isn't much more than a steel shaft welded to the rear of the frame to hang weights from. You are correct on most of this, but it is common (once you have enough frame weight) to need to go to 15 degrees of tilt on the rockshaft to get penetration on very firm to hard soils. |
