Subject: RE: Ontario planting problems

Middlesex County, Ontario
Are the opening discs put on the right way? One side is flat, one side has a bevel. The side with the bevel should be away from the gauge wheel. The flat side should be towards the gauge wheel.

Should replace the openers at 17" or when they are dull. New they are 18".

The rockshaft which pivots to put the row units up/down should be level in good conditions. You can tilt it back another 5 degrees or so in tough conditions but no more than that. More than 5 degrees and you start wearing the rear of the seed boot and you change the angle between the ground and gauge/opener which actually makes it plant shallower. If you need to tilt it more than 5 degrees you need more weight!

Sand bags on the platform where you stand to fill are better than nothing. Keeping the seed box full helps.

The weight bracket isn't much more than a steel shaft welded to the rear of the frame to hang weights from.
