Crawford County, Robinson, Illinois

jimjr - 4/23/2014 07:57 I was picking rock yesterday as well, found nothing out of the ordinary this time, have noticed for years the blue/gray colored rocks weigh twice as much as a red or white one.

Reminds me of my Dad's old question, which is heavier, a pound of feathers or a pound of rock.  I know what you mean is the blue/gray rocks are denser, therefore weigh more than the same sized rock as a white one.  I am not a geologist, but believe for the most part the igneous rock are denser than sedimentary rocks due to the pressure of the heat that formed the igneous rocks and fused the particles closer together.  Someone smarter could correct me.If I am not remembering correctly.

In my area, the pile of rocks found in the disk and other equipment was piled around the mailbox pole near the fuel pump.  In 35 years, the pile was not actually that large, we don't have much of a rock problem.
