Granite.
We get them around here too when our soil is limestone based and has lots of limestone.

They were brought in by the glaciers that covered much of North America 100.000 years ago.

The ring is a different layer and type of material laid down in the original location that it was torn from.

I have rocks with different layers in them, lots are white.

I think the ring is a harder rock so has not worn as much as the rest and that is why it is wider.
