Those people didn't buy fertilizer by the truck load.
And the yields were about half of what they are today for us. Course better varieties and better farming practices have played a huge part too. Up here 25 bushel wheat was a good crop all the way into 80s. Funny how our yields went up when we started fertilizing in the late 80s.
