I concur with what most are saying here. It used to be somewhat of a rule of thumb to start on April 15th or after if the ground is fit to plant. We have started earlier, like in 2012 and in 1993 we started on Apr. 13th. In recent years, not that many farmers around us will wait for a particular date if the ground is dry and fit to plant. The chances of rain and bad weather coming and staying for two weeks…or more like last year. Even though the early planted corn last year had poorer stands, the yield was still better compared to the late May and June planted corn. The seed corn now seems able to lay there for three weeks and still come up very well. Not so 20 or 30 years ago.
