| 214 today, call me Mr. Slim.
Well, Mr. Overweight.
But it's a big achievement for me, down almost 2 full BMI levels since October.
Actually went up a bit since yesterday, but that's OK, I had some margin.
I bought a bag of Hampton Farms peanuts yesterday.
Is that me or peanuts, like many vegetables these days, don't taste like they should?
Is it the same varieties they sell in the store as the ones used for oil?
It sure looks like it, they have no flavor whatsoever, not even an hint of peanutness, just crunch and fat.
I don't think it's because peanuts are GMOs, but it must have to do with the selection they make.
Does it mean we have to look for heirloom varieties, like they sell in some seed exchanges?
I grew what I think was called Black Carolina once, I think it was a Valencia or Spanish variety.
These were awesome, with the true peanut flavor I remember from decades ago.
And at $2/lb, this garbage is not even cheap, considering that most state have a 3500-4000 lb/acre yield.
I wish more growers were selling tasty varieties direct, an easy job now with the Internet and USPS flat rate boxes.
Surprisingly, peanuts seem to help with the diet, as they accelerate intestinal transit, leaving less time to extract all the food nutrients, including the oil from the peanuts themselves. | |
